Start with the recipient, not the voucher

Confirm whether the recipient has ridden before, how far they can travel and whether they would prefer a social group, a private lesson or a longer experience. A polo beginner may still need a different starting format from a beginner rider.

Check the voucher terms

Before buying, ask who issues the voucher, how long it remains valid, which dates are excluded, how rescheduling works and whether there are weather-related restrictions. Confirm whether the listed time is coaching time or the whole visit.

• Get the participant eligibility in writing.
• Confirm pony, helmet, mallet and other equipment.
• Check whether the voucher is transferable or refundable.

Use published information as a starting point

Herts Polo publicly lists gift vouchers for its Introduction to Polo format. Its page lists a two-hour introduction at £120 per person for people with no riding experience, with coach, pony, hat and mallet included.
