Choose Rome for depth, not a landmark count
Rome is a strong match if you enjoy spending a morning in an archaeological site or museum and making the rest of the day your own. The Colosseum/Forum/Palatine area, Vatican collections and historic centre each deserve their own cluster.
The tradeoff is preparation. Timed entries, opening calendars and walking distances can make an improvised list of headline sights tiring. Choose your most important visit first and let ticket availability shape the order of the trip.

Three full days or five?
Our three-day version gives ancient Rome, the Vatican area and the historic centre a day each. These are full sightseeing days; a late landing does not count as day one. Keep the first evening for arrival, a nearby meal and tomorrow's booking check.
Five days adds a park-and-gallery day around Villa Borghese and a slower food-and-neighbourhood day. The extra days are useful if you prefer shorter walks or want to leave one day partly unbooked. This is a proposed pace, not a minimum required stay.

Choose a base by your main interest
| Choice | Best fit | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Monti | Ancient Rome and evenings nearby | Check street-level noise and the actual station walk |
| Prati | Vatican visits, restaurants and shopping | Ancient Rome is a separate journey |
| Trastevere | Evening meals and neighbourhood atmosphere | Confirm the airport-to-door route and quiet-room options |
| Testaccio | Food-led exploration and a slower pace | Allow transport time to headline central sights |

Four things to arrange before arrival
- Match the airport code to the route: FCO and CIA have different rail/bus options.
- Book the major attraction you most want through its official ticket channel.
- Confirm accommodation access if your flight or train is delayed.
- Save your first evening's simple meal area, return route and an offline address.

Make the plan easier to change
Group sights geographically rather than crossing the city for every meal. Keep one indoor alternative close to an outdoor day, and use transport or shorten the walk when conditions or your energy call for it.
A shared food walk, museum tour or cooking class can be an optional social anchor. We do not list unverified operators or promise that a group activity will produce friendships. Independent time is a valid part of the trip.
