Before 22:00: choose the destination station first
Save the accommodation entrance and choose the station serving that door. The airport quotes roughly 20 minutes to Saldanha; that is not a promise of arrival at a hotel elsewhere in the city. Allow for buying a ticket, an interchange, the exit and the walk.
If your booking says Baixa, Chiado or Alfama, do not automatically get off at Saldanha because an airport guide mentions it. Use the Metro map and your address together. If step-free access matters, check the exact stations and current lift status rather than assuming every entrance is equivalent.

22:00–01:00: decide after immigration and baggage
A 23:30 landing is not a 23:30 station arrival. Once you have your bag, check whether the entire route still works. Keep enough margin to find the platform, change lines if necessary and reach a staffed or confirmed self-check-in entrance.
If the margin has disappeared, change the transport plan while you still have airport staff and connectivity available. There is no benefit in catching a first train that leaves you without a practical onward journey. Contact the property if the new arrival time crosses its check-in limit.
After 01:00: keep the pickup and check-in simple
Use the airport's official transport channels to arrange a licensed ride. For a taxi, use the rank and confirm the meter; for TVDE, use the app and signed pickup location. The airport specifically warns against unsolicited offers inside the terminal.
Send the driver the full address. Before paying or ending the ride, check that the entrance matches your booking and that you can get in. A car may not reach a pedestrian lane or narrow hillside door: agree the nearest practical drop-off and the remaining walk in advance.

When the original plan stops working
Use the first-24-hours guide for the next morning and the arrival card for an offline summary. Neither replaces the operator's live notices.
- Phone has no data: use airport connectivity to load the address and contact the stay before heading outside.
- Flight delayed beyond reception hours: obtain fresh instructions; do not assume an old door code still works.
- Large bag or tired legs: compare a licensed ride against the actual final walk, even if Metro tickets cost less.
- Return flight: check your departure terminal separately and allow time for any terminal transfer.
